As the 4th of July approaches, you might be thinking about how you’ll spend the holiday – backyard grilling, great music, maybe even a few rounds of cornhole with family and friends. But if you’ve recently moved into a new home (or are dreaming of doing so), this summer is the perfect time to go big and connect with your community.
Why not take your celebration a step further and turn it into a block party? Getting the
whole street involved not only makes for a memorable day, but also builds a stronger, more connected neighborhood.
In a recent survey conducted by Nextdoor, 67% of homeowners reported feeling safer in their home because they know their neighbors. In addition, 76% of U.S. adults polled said they thought their neighborhood would be safer if they communicated more with neighbors.
Knowing your neighbors can have a real impact on how safe you feel and how neighbors watch out for each other. Nearly 72% of homeowners report that because they know their neighbors, they are confident their neighbors will do something if they see anything suspicious around their home. The studies also found that 35% of Americans who know their neighbors have shared information with them about crime and safety in the neighborhood.
So go ahead and invite your neighbors – put on some music, get out the cornhole boards, and light up the grill this 4th of July.
