The Ultimate Fall Bucket List: 10 Things to Do This Season

Written by Bailey Twillman | September 17, 2026

Fall will officially be here on September 22, and that means it's time to make the most of crisp mornings, colorful leaves, cozy sweaters, and all the traditions that make this season so special.

Whether you're looking for a weekend activity with the family, a date-night idea, or an excuse to enjoy your favorite fall treats, there's plenty to do this time of year.

So, grab your favorite sweater, and start checking things off our ultimate fall bucket list!

1. Get Lost in a Corn Maze

Find a local corn maze and see if you can make it to the other side without getting turned around. For an extra challenge, go with friends or family and make a competition out of it.

2. Go Apple-Picking

Spend a crisp fall afternoon at a local orchard picking apples straight from the tree.

Depending on the orchard, you may also find cider, donuts, pumpkins, farm animals, and other seasonal activities. Once you get home, you'll have the perfect ingredient for your next fall baking project (cue the drooling).

3. Attend a Fall Festival

Fall festivals are a great way to get outside and enjoy the season.

Check out your local community calendar for festivals, craft fairs, farmers markets, and other autumn events. Grab a warm drink, shop local vendors, and enjoy some live entertainment.

You may even discover a new fall tradition close to home.

4. Enjoy Your Favorite Fall Treats

Make a list of your must-have seasonal treats and start checking them off. Pumpkin spice lattes, caramel apples, apple cider donuts, pumpkin bread and cinnamon rolls all deserve a spot.

5. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Pick out the perfect pumpkin and make a day of it.

Many pumpkin patches offer hayrides, corn mazes, games, petting zoos and other activities, making them a great destination for the whole family.

Once you've picked your pumpkin, bring it home and turn it into a fall decoration.

6. Carve a Pumpkin

Put your pumpkin-carving skills to the test.

Go classic with a traditional jack-o'-lantern, get creative with a fun design, or let the kids create their own masterpieces.

7. Roast Pumpkin Seeds

Don't throw away those pumpkin seeds!

Clean them, season them and roast them for a crunchy fall snack. Try classic salt and butter, cinnamon sugar, or experiment with your favorite savory seasonings like Old Bay, Lowrey’s seasoned salt, or ranch mix.

8. Watch Some Football

Fall and football go hand in hand.

Whether you're cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, watching IU or Notre Dame, heading to a local high school game or simply gathering friends and family around the TV, make a day of it.

Add your favorite game-day snacks, a cozy blanket and good company, and you've got a perfect fall afternoon.

9. Take a Scenic Drive

You don't always need a destination to enjoy fall.

Hop in the car, turn on your favorite playlist and take a drive through the countryside to see the changing leaves. Pack some coffee or apple cider and make an afternoon of exploring your own backyard.

You might be surprised by how beautiful the scenery is just a short drive from home.

10. Get Your Home Ready for Winter

Fall isn't just about enjoying the season. It's also a great time to prepare your home for the colder months ahead.

Clean out your gutters, check your heating system, inspect doors and windows for drafts, switch your ceiling fans to their winter direction, and bring outdoor furniture or summer items inside.

A little preparation now can help you feel more comfortable once winter arrives.

Make Fall a Season to Remember

The best fall memories don't have to involve expensive trips or elaborate plans. Sometimes, they're as simple as picking apples with your family, watching football on the couch or enjoying a warm drink while the leaves change outside.

And if this season has you dreaming about a home where you can make more of those memories, we're here to help.
